I don't really know why they turned out this way where the ink has kind of accumulated in areas and not gone on others, shows that I need more practice in this medium. The design is supposed to be one of my guinea pigs faces but I'm not sure if a viewer would be able to tell or not.

Some good outcomes here but I wish I had produced a larger quantity.  For the final illustration I actually combined multiple scenes that I had seen throughout the day and put them into one scene. I then added  a splash of colour because for me that's the feeling that the place had. It felt very busy and chaotic but friendly and I wanted to get that across in this task.

paper towns

Black pen Pastel and black pen Pencil Black fine liner Pencil  Black fine line pen This first task really opened my eyes to the possibilities of composition and the importance of having a foreground, midground and background in certain works to create an element of depth. We only had to make one but I made several including 2 joint ones with Kyle Grattage where we both drew one and then covered and let the other draw the next part and then we revealed the results. I found this really inspiring and exciting and would love to do it again. They would make for lovely cards too. The second task we went with a grungy downtown feeling to our join paper town and so I went with the gentleman's club of course. Meant to be a little funny and silly looking. Not a massive fan of this outcome, I think I could have done a lot more with the time and come up with a more interesting design, maybe adding some 3D elements perhaps.

Letter and Type

My first attempt at anything sort of typography related really. Its something I struggle massively with because I like to work in quite a fluid and messy way and usually typography Is a bit more precise and clean cut. I tried to do something for the whole alphabet but I didn't manage my time well enough to be able to create a more refined and themed alphabet unfortunately. It took me a long time to think of some of these and some of them are a bit surface level but the way I see it is this is just the start of my journey with typography.  This was for the words are powerful task. some good visuals here, I like the ones of the body types but to be honest I could have taken this much further. I ended up choosing a new topic because my heart just wasn't in this one. I still think its all valuable practice and works that creative muscle that I'm really trying to expand upon.

Side Hustle

Painted with oil paint. I really want to learn how to use oils properly. My favourite artist is Van Gogh and his work inspires me a lot. Rapid oil painting Cartoony style capturing of my guinea pigs Cartoony style capturing of my cat. Captured this sketch in class. Please with the outcome as it has a good likeness. The likeness is not as strong in this one, I found the angle difficult. I tried the idea of adding text of what I could hear at the time of drawing, which just so happened to be Sarah explaining something and people either side of me. I think the likeness isn't too far off and im pretty happy with it. I like the technique.  Likeness not there much at all nor the mood I was trying to capture but arguably learnt more from this one than some of the better outcomes.  Really enjoyed this and would like to continue to do these to get my creative muscle warmed up as it did really help to achieve that.

Maps

Task: explore map making and create a risograph I saw an example of space and immediately wanted to try that!  I created this map of our solar system but I am not sure if this is too many colours for a riso as I have not done one before, luckily though all of these are on separate layers so i can easily reduce the amount of colours if needed.  It was explained to me that it was too many colours so I have reduced this right down to 2 when printed on white paper I have never done a risograph print before this and wow. I loved this process. Learning all about how the printing works as well as putting the work together to print was all a very valuable experience for me. I'd definitely like to use riso printing again during my time at the university and make the most of those facilities.
